Ghost Car Navigation System: A safer way to travel in Bellevue?

Free Case Evaluation

Road safety should be on the minds of all drivers and anybody who shares the roads in Bellevue. This is certainly not without reason: the preliminary 2013 Annual Collision Summary for Washington shows a crash occurred in the state every five minutes, with one accident-related fatality every 20 hours.

Automakers are finding new ways to improve auto safety. One of Jaguar’s latest innovations is an interactive safety feature that helps guide drivers through the streets. Known as the “Ghost Car” navigation system, the technology aims to create safer roads for us all.

What is the Ghost Car?

The Ghost Car, officially known as “Follow-Me Ghost Car Navigation,” is a guidance device that helps drivers maneuver to a predetermined destination. How exactly does it do this? The Ghost Car system operates by projecting an image of a virtual car on the windshield. The virtual (or ghost) car appears directly in front of the real car, allowing the driver to follow in its path to its destination.

This is only the latest iteration of high-tech navigation devices that intends to make the streets safer. But while other systems use arrows or representations of highway exits for instruction, the Ghost Car device takes it one step further. It shows the driver exactly where to go, as well as the best way to get there.

Why did Jaguar choose this method of navigation for future models of its cars? Dr. Wolfgang Epple, Jaguar Land Rover’s director of research and technology, provides, “Driving on city streets can be a stressful experience, but imagine being able to drive across town without having to look at road signs, or be distracted trying to locate a parking space as you drive by.”

While the Ghost Car is not yet available, Benjamin Zhang, writer for Business Insider, believes the Jaguar Virtual Windscreen (which allows Ghost Car to operate) could be a fixture in the next generation of Range Rover Autobiography or Jaguar XJL Portfolio.

Despite Safety Technology, Accidents Still Happen

Even with the safest form of navigational device, however, a car accident may still occur. And if you ever find yourself in a car crash, don’t hesitate to call us at Max Meyers Law, PLLC for help.
