Jaguar Land Rover North America has announced a recall of more than 100,000 cars because of a defect that could cause malfunctioning of brake hoses and sidelights.
Details of the Jaguar Land Rover Recall
Jaguar Land Rover North America has recalled more than 70,000 Range Rovers as part of this recall. The defect could potentially cause one or both of the front brake hoses to crack and rupture. This would immediately cause the loss of brake fluid, causing serious braking problems including loss of braking speed. Range Rover manufactured between 2005 and 2012 are included in this recall.
The recall also includes 4,787 Jaguar XK cars that are from the 2012 to 2015 model lines. In these cars, there is a defect that could cause switching off of the sidelights after just five minutes. The recall includes Jaguar vehicles that were built between August 2012 and January 2014, and Sport models manufactured between May 2013 and January, 2014. All of these models will require an update to their parking lamp software as part of the repair.
A total of 104,000 vehicles are included in the recall. The defects came to light in November last year, when Jaguar Land Rover North America received a report of an accident linked to ruptured brake hoses. It also received information about other incidents in which brake hoses were ruptured and cracked, leading to a loss of engine fluid. The company began an investigation in November last year.
The recall will kick off in early March. If you are the owner of a Jaguar or Land Rover car included in this recall, contact your local Jaguar Land Rover North America dealer immediately. According to some reports, dealers will undertake a replacement of the malfunctioning brake hoses for free.
While this recall is large, it’s nothing like the TRW recall of two million vehicles for defective crash sensors just last week.
